What Uncommon Engine is

Uncommon Engine publishes market intelligence articles and free decision tools (margin, ROAS, discount, and channel calculators) for ecommerce and platform growth operators in Southeast Asia. The site is operated from Singapore.

What Signal is

Signal is a curated daily digest: the same work a human editor does reading the day’s coverage and writing up what matters, done here with AI assistance. Every item is drafted from that outlet’s own reporting and credited by name to the publication and, where known, the reporter, with a link to their original article. The outlet did the reporting and stands behind its own facts; Signal’s summary line and its "The read" / "The Signal" notes are our interpretation of that reporting, written in good faith at the time of publishing, the same relationship a human curator or analyst has to the sources they cite. Signal does not reproduce full articles. Like any AI-assisted tool, including the ones that helped build this site, it can occasionally misstate or oversimplify a detail even when the source reporting is correct. Read it the way you would read a briefing from a research assistant: useful for spotting what matters, always worth checking against the original before you rely on a claim, a figure, or a quote.

The tools are estimates, not advice

Every calculator on this site produces a planning-level estimate from the numbers you enter and, where noted, from published platform fee schedules. Fee defaults are sourced but not verified against your own seller dashboard; check them before relying on the result. Nothing on this site is financial, tax, legal, or investment advice, and no calculation is a guarantee of any business outcome.

Your inputs stay in your browser

Numbers you type into a calculator (price, cost, budget, and similar fields) are used only to compute the result shown on screen. They are not sent to our servers or stored, unless a specific feature explicitly says otherwise at the point you use it.

Accounts and sign-in

Some areas of the site use passwordless sign-in (a magic link sent to your email) instead of a password. Creating an account means you agree to receive that sign-in email and any account-related notices to the address you provide.

Acceptable use

Do not use this site to scrape, resell, or republish its content or calculators at scale, attempt to disrupt the service, or submit false information through any form to impersonate someone else.

No warranty

The site, its articles, and its tools are provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any fee default or figure is current at the time you use it.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Uncommon Engine is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site or its tools, including business, financial, or data loss.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the product changes. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
